New brand identity and logo for Eva Fox
Miss Eva Fox is a singer based in the North-West of England, available for bookings for jazz, blues, swing, soul, and showtunes. Her accreditations include backing singing for Ray Lewis (formerly of The Drifters), singing semi-professionally with pop duo Kanditone and recording the full-length album “The Grim Mathematics of Intercourse” with electro-rock band Bikini Black Special. I was asked to design the visual brand identity and logo for her to use in photos, posters, videos, business cards and more.
Brief
“I want it to look a bit like a Hollywood style autograph! Colour-wise, white is probably best, but if you want any colour, I like reds and pinks! I like the Miss Piggy one (I jest not!) and shapes I like are pretty much hearts and stars. I am thinking of something which looks very showbiz so maybe looks like it has a sparkle. Scripty, yes! Just saying Miss Eva Fox for use on posters, photos, and business cards and paraphernalia of that type! Ohh and key ideas:- vintage, jazz, blues.”
Inspiration and Research
Not being familiar with the whole ’40s/’50s retro/vintage culture revival, I had to undertake some research in order to seat me in the era properly and get a proper feel of the time. Key iconic figures of the time supplied to me as inspiration include Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Ava Gardner, Bettie Page, Jayne Mansfield, Judy Garland and Liza Minelli. This, essentially, proved to be a study into Graphology.

Brand and Logo Development
The typeface chosen as a base to work on
Researching rather a lot of script/calligraphy typefaces finally lead me to this particular beauty to use as a base. My job was then to alter the font and ‘humanise’ it.

Developing the colour scheme. I wanted to comply with her request for reds/pinks, so a simple but striking colour scheme of white, dark grey and magenta was employed.
